In May 2008, Ontario announced a $25-million investment to establish the Centre for Research and Innovation in the Bio-Economy (CRIBE) in Thunder Bay. A seven-member task force was appointed to develop a report with recommendations to the Minister of Research and Innovation on the scope and function of the new centre.

A Global Expansion Program (EMA) is designed to assist small to medium size organizations (SMEs) to access and expand their growth in new foreign markets that are beyond the U.S. If your company has 5 or more employees and annual sales of $500,000 or more, you may qualify for a grant covering up to 50% of eligible costs incurred to develop export sales. Eligible activities include market research, marketing tools, direct contacts and foreign bidding projects. Export Market Access is an initiative of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, with support and funding from the Government of Ontario.
The City of Dryden has been extensively studied and significant plans have been prepared to support Community Improvement throughout the commercials areas of the City. These improvements can be enhanced through private investment in lands and buildings. Financial incentives are available to property owners in the following areas:
- Planning and Design
- Building Façade Improvements
- Improved Signage
- Parking Area Improvement
- Application Fees
- Property Tax Increment Grant

Business owners have an opportunity to get a loan to improve their store fronts. PACE’s revitalization loan program offers incentives to foster change in the region. The program is one result of the reports prepared by Juri Berzins, Urban Design Associates.
Specific Criteria and Guidelines include:
- Maximum funding for each fiscal year is $100,000. Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis until funds are depleted for any given year.
- Funding will match the borrowers contribution, up to a maximum of $10,000.
- Interest rate of Royal Bank prime
- Maximum term of ten years
- No security required

No repayment penalties will apply
- To insure compliance with the Construction Liens Act, the borrower must contribute 50% of each advance if more than one advance is required to pay contractors or suppliers. PACE will hold back 10% of each advance until thirty days after final payments are made to contractors or a full release is received from the contractor

In-kind contributions will not be considered for the purpose of calculating matching funds.

Aboriginal Business Canada
Aboriginal Business Canada is an Indian and Northern Affairs Canada program that provides financial assistance and business information to majority-owned Aboriginal enterprises on- and off-reserve, in urban, rural and remote areas. ABC works with clients of all Canadian Aboriginal heritage groups. |
