DRYDEN SOLAR PARK
The Study
In response to the Government of Ontario's objective to increase renewable power generation in the Province, the City of Dryden is proposing to develop a solar photovoltaic electricity generation project within the study area annotated in this Notice. Under the Renewable Energy Approval, a key part of the approval process for each project is the undertaking of public consultation. The purpose of this Notice is to invite your continued participation in the consultation and approvals process. The proponent is proposing a project consisting of solar photovoltaic modules and auxiliary equipment with a total nominal electrical generation capacity of 5 MW AC. The study area is generally bounded by Leach Road to the north, Grand Trunk Avenue (Highway 17) to the west, Swanson Creek to the south and a pipeline easement to the east.
The Proponent
The Council of the City of Dryden has been involved with the development of this park for over 2 years and wants to become a centre for photovoltaic energy generation to reinforce the City's goal of being leaders in innovative strategies, both economically and environmentally.
The Process
The environmental approvals process is being conducted in accordance with the Renewable Energy Approvals (O.Reg. 359/09) under Part V.0.1 of the Environmental Protection Act and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA). The applicable guideline that is being followed is the "Renewable Energy Approvals” (September 2009) provided by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment. The provincial and federal approvals processes include public, aboriginal and review agency consultation, assessment of the impacts of the proposed project, and identification of measures to mitigate any potential adverse impacts. Upon completion of the background studies and reports required for a Renewable Energy Approval application, these studies will be made available to the public for review at least 60 days prior to the second public meeting.
The public meeting will be held to provide a general overview of the project and the Renewable Energy Approvals process and to seek public input. We invite the public to attend the meeting so that we can answer your questions and receive your feedback.
Public Meeting # 1
Date: Monday, March 29, 2010
